Common Questions

What people ask us

What areas do you service?

We're based in Seaford and work across Adelaide's southern suburbs, the foothills (Coromandel Valley, Blackwood, Belair, Stirling) and the Fleurieu Peninsula (McLaren Vale, Willunga, Aldinga, Victor Harbor). If you're further out and the project's right, give us a call.

What timber species work best for decks in Adelaide?

It depends on your site and how you'll use the space. Our go-to decking hardwoods are spotted gum, blackbutt and merbau, chosen for durability and natural resistance to Adelaide's dry summers and wet winters. We also work with jarrah, iron ash, silver top ash and Victorian ash (sapphire blonde), plus cypress pine where it suits the job. Scotty will recommend the right species for your project after a site visit.

How much does a custom deck cost in Adelaide?

Every project is different, so it's hard to give a ballpark without seeing your site. Factors include timber species, deck size, site access, slope and substructure requirements. We provide detailed, itemised quotes after a free site visit so there are no surprises.

How long does a deck or pergola project take?

Most decks take around one to one and a half weeks, with larger builds closer to two. A basic pergola is about a week, and a bigger or more detailed one around a week and a half. Projects combining several elements take longer. We'll give you a clear timeline in your quote and keep you updated throughout the build.

Do you handle council approvals and permits?

Yes. If your project needs council approval, we handle the development application process for you, so you're not left working it out alone. For straightforward builds like standard-height decks and pergolas, approval often isn't required, but we'll always check before we start.

What's the difference between hardwood and treated pine decking?

Hardwood is more durable, looks better with age, and handles Adelaide's climate without the chemical treatment that pine requires. It costs more up front but lasts significantly longer and needs less maintenance. We're hardwood specialists, so that's what we build with above ground. Cypress pine has real qualities of its own and we'll use it where it fits, and we use treated pine for subframing or where the timber is going to be painted.

Can you work with recycled or reclaimed timber?

Absolutely. We do a lot of recycled timber work including old bridge timbers, salvaged hardwood, and reclaimed materials with real character. It takes longer to source and work with, but the results are worth it.

Do you build composite decks, or only timber?

Timber is what we specialise in and what most of our work is. We do build with composite when a client specifically wants it, so it's there as an option, but our craft and our recommendation lean to natural hardwood for the look and longevity it gives in Adelaide conditions.
